It
is time one again to promote our annual Pond Tours.  The tours are hosted
by private homeowners that have ponds in their yards.  Many ponds include
water features, sculptures, Koi and other fish.  Everyone is invited to
participate and there is no fee.  The website will have maps to the ponds
on the tour.  The East Valley tours this year will be on Saturday, May 2nd from 9 AM to 4 PM open house style.

&nbsp; &nbsp;On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the Scottsdale Civil War Roundtable will host Lynn Herman, speaking on “The New Mexico Campaign &amp; Glorieta Pass.” This 1862 campaign was the Confederacy’s attempt to conquer the Southwest, including the occupation of Tucson, and a century later served as the basis for the famous film 'The Good, The Bad &amp; The Ugly.' &nbsp; Lynn Herman is a well-known public historian on the Civil War, appearing on C-Span History TV, BBC, and at many Civil War Roundtables, as well as being president of the Central Pennsylvania Civil War Roundtable. Mr. Herman is also a re-enactor. From 1982 to 2006 he represented Pennsylvania’s 77th District in the State House of Representatives. &nbsp; The lecture will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Copper Auditorium located on the lower level of the Civic Center branch of the Scottsdale Public Library, 3839 N. Drinkwater Blvd., Scottsdale. The doors will open at 5:00 p.m. and provide an opportunity to meet the speaker, browse our book sale, and view a Civil War video in the Auditorium. Parking is free at the adjacent sub-level covered parking garage accessible off northbound Drinkwater Blvd. &nbsp; The public is welcome, free of charge, to attend the monthly meeting of the Scottsdale Civil War Roundtable. Ice Machine is a band of experienced players who have performed all over the Valley. On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the Scottsdale Civil War Roundtable will host Neil Chatelain, speaking on ”Treasure and Empire in the Civil War: The Panamá Route, the West, and the Campaigns to Control America’s Mineral Wealth.” This is the story of the unknown and overlooked Civil War campaigns waged over whether the United States or Confederacy would dominate lands, mines, and seaborne transportation networks of North America’s mineral wealth. Neil P. Chatelain is an associate professor of history at Lone Star College – North Harris and vice president of the nonprofit Emerging Civil War, which trains and mentors emerging voices in the field of Civil War studies. Before teaching, Neil served as a surface warfare officer in the United States Navy. His book, Treasure and Empire in the Civil War, won the 2025 A.M. Pate Jr. Award in Civil War History. The lecture will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Copper Auditorium located on the lower level of the Civic Center branch of the Scottsdale Public Library, 3839 N Drinkwater Blvd., Scottsdale. The doors will open at 5:00 p.m. providing an opportunity to meet the speaker, browse our book sale, and view Civil War videos.
