21 Parrots Rescued In Tucson Hoarding Investigation

TUCSON, AZ — A flock of 21 parrots, including several macaws, is now in the care of Pima Animal Care Center after being removed as part of a hoarding investigation.

PACC is working with Paradise Parrot Rescue to care for the birds and prepare them for future adoption or foster placement.

The Tucson nonprofit specializes in parrots and exotic birds and is helping provide the specialized care the animals need.

"Paradise Parrot Rescue is honored to partner with PACC to rescue these amazing creatures," Rescue Director Brian Klontz said. "We are committed to their welfare, recovery and ultimate placement into highly screened forever homes."

PACC said the partnership comes as the shelter continues managing a high number of animals in its care. Monica Dangler, PACC's director of animal services, said working with the rescue allows the shelter to focus its resources on the hundreds of other animals currently being housed.

"Paradise Parrot Rescue is well-equipped to care for these beautiful birds," Dangler said. "For that, we're very appreciative, because it allows us to focus our resources on the hundreds of other animals currently in our care."

People interested in helping the parrots through adoption, fostering or donations can contact Paradise Parrot Rescue through its website.

Those looking to adopt or foster other animals at PACC can visit the shelter at 4000 N. Silverbell Road during operating hours: noon to 7 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 1:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays; and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Pets adopted from PACC leave with current vaccinations, a microchip and spay or neuter surgery. Foster families receive medical support and supplies when available.

PACC has not released additional details about the hoarding investigation or said when the parrots were taken into custody.

Residents can browse available animals and learn more about PACC's programs through the shelter's website. The parrots will remain under specialized care as they recover and are evaluated for future placement.
