Man Killed In Hit-And-Run By Unknown Driver In Tucson: Police
Investigators are working to identify the driver after the victim was found dead in the roadway early Monday morning.
TUCSON, AZ — Authorities are investigating a hit-and-run after a man was found dead early Monday morning on a Tucson roadway.
Tucson police responded to South 12th Avenue near West District Street just after 12:30 a.m. when an officer spotted a man lying in the road.
The victim — Luis Eduardo Garcia, 56, of Tucson — was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts by Tucson Fire Department crews to save him.

Investigators believe Garcia was attempting to cross South 12th Avenue when a northbound driver, traveling above the posted 35 mph speed limit, struck him and fled without stopping.
The driver has not been identified. Police are reviewing video and roadway evidence as the investigation continues.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information about the vehicle involved is asked to call 88-CRIME or 911.
The hit-and-run comes amid a troubling rise in pedestrian deaths in Tucson. The city has recorded 17 pedestrian fatalities so far in 2026, compared to five at the same point last year.
Overall traffic deaths are also up, from 27 through this point in 2025 to 40 in 2026.
