Speeding Driver Ejected From SUV, Killed In Tucson Crash: Police
The 58-year-old was not wearing a seatbelt when his SUV crossed into oncoming traffic on South Kolb Road just before midnight Sunday.
TUCSON, AZ — A 58-year-old man was ejected from his SUV and killed late Sunday night in a three-vehicle crash on South Kolb Road, police said.
Samuel D. Jackson was driving a Toyota RAV4 northbound in the curb lane near the 4300 block of South Kolb Road just before 11:35 p.m. when he rear-ended a Volkswagen Golf traveling in the same lane, according to police.
The impact caused Jackson to lose control, strike the raised median and cross into southbound oncoming traffic, where his RAV4 collided with a GMC Sierra.

Jackson was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and later pronounced dead.
The drivers of the other two vehicles suffered minor injuries and remained at the scene, according to police.

Police said Jackson was traveling well above the posted speed limit. Investigators determined his speed and failure to control his vehicle were the major contributing factors in the crash.
Officers also evaluated the other two drivers for impairment, but neither tested positive for alcohol or drugs.
Whether Jackson had any substances in his system may be determined through medical records, police said.
The crash remains under investigation.
