The Alameda Free Library is pleased to present our Introduction to LinkedIn Learning Workshop in the Main Library Computer Lab. This event will be held at the Main Library, 1550 Oak St., from 6-7:30 pm on November 17, 2021. All ages are welcome to attend this class.

  • NaNoWriMo – 2021: Have you started your novel yet? Now is the time – the library will be opening its’ doors to writers and potential writers, who need space to get some work done. We’ll be in the Stafford Room from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM on Saturday, November 6th and November 20th, with plenty of space for writers and their computers or their pens and pads of paper. This is a socially distant event. Wearing a face mask, covering mouth and nose at all times will be required.
  • Viewing Party - National Book Awards Finalists Reading: Tuesday, November 9, 4:00-5:30pm-1550 Oak Street, Stafford Room. Join us in viewing the livestream of the finalists for the 2021 National Book Awards reading excerpts of their work. Then vote on who you think will win in each category. Finalists include Anthony Doerr, Lauren Groff, Hanif Abdurraqib, Tiya Miles, and many more!

    • Teen Events

  • Manga Workshop with Artist KomunHorangi: Wednesday, November 10, 4:00 PM-5:00 PM. The Alameda Free Library invites you to learn the basics to creating Manga with Artist KomunHorangi (You can find them on Twitter/Instagram @KomunHorangi). Learn tips on practicing line art, proportions, style, and more. This is a Teen only event, registration is required. Masks are required. Materials will be provided, but you are more than welcome to bring your own. The Manga Workshop will be at the Alameda Free Library’s Main Branch in the Stafford Room.   • Adult Craft Lab: Join us for an hour of relaxing and fun crafts. Drop-In, no experience required, supplies provided. Wearing a mask covering mouth and nose, will be required.
  • Teen Advisory Board: Do you wish the library would do more events and programs that you’re interested in? Have you been anxiously awaiting a new book and you want the library to buy it? Do you need an impressive membership to put on your applications and resumes? Join the Teen Advisory Board (TAB) to let the library know what you’re interested in. The Teen Advisory Board is your chance to make a difference in the library for yourself and other teens in Alameda. Members of the Teen Advisory Board will plan be involved in planning Teen programs and choose teen events. Teen Advisory Board members will earn community service hours for every meeting and event that they participate in.
  • Teen Book Club: Teen book club members choose what we read from a variety of titles and genres each month and every book club member gets a free copy of the book to keep. This month’s title is The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. All teens, ages 13 to 18, are invited to join the book group. Registration link is on the calendar. Zoom link will be emailed 24 hours before the meeting.
  • Teen Writing Group: Do you have a love for writing and want to share your voice with the world? Then come to the Teen Writing Group! No matter your experience level or favorite writing medium, all are welcome. We will be exchanging writing tips, talking about how to submit your work, having quick prompted writing sessions, workshopping each other’s writing, holding open mic sessions, and much more!   • Dungeons & Dragons: Want to try Dungeons & Dragons but can’t find a group? Looking for a new party? Come to our Dungeons & Dragons Teen Meetup! We will be playing a stand-alone adventure in 5th edition. No previous experience required. Character sheets will be provided as well as rules explanations and dice.
  • Game Break: Don’t forget to take a break…A GAME BREAK! Try out our new games and/or watch others play. No Registration needed, masks required. Teens only!
  • Lawyers in the Library: The Lawyers in the Library program provides free 15 minute consultations with a volunteer attorney who will provide guidance on legal matters. Examples of areas covered include landlord/tenant disputes, probate matters, employment problems and other general consumer issues. Please see online calendar for dates and locations.
  • Alameda Library Book Club: The Alameda Library Book Club meets every 2nd Monday at the Alameda Free Library. Everyone is welcome to participate.
  • Alameda Library Writers’ Group: This group is open to all adult writers looking for a space to work and an opportunity to connect and share with other writers. Whatever your genre - you are welcome to join the group. Bring your ideas and laptop (or pencil and paper) and start writing. Please enter quietly. Sharing at the end for those interested.
  • Me, MyShelf, and I – Biography and Memoir Book Club: Join the Alameda Free Library’s Biography and Memoir Book Club - Me, MyShelf, and I, for a literary discussion! Copies are available in our Alameda Free Library collection and through our LINK+ library partners. A limited number of free copies provided by the Friends of the Alameda Library will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.   • Mystery Book Club: Join the Alameda Free Library’s Mystery Book Club for a fun and engaging literary discussion! Our featured book this month is Winter Counts by David Heska Wanbli Weiden, winner of the 2021 Lefty Award for Best Debut Mystery Novel. Copies are available in our Alameda Free Library collection and through our LINK+ library partners. A limited number of free copies provided by the Friends of the Alameda Library will also be available soon at the Main Library.     • Sneak Peek Saturday: Alameda Free Library's special reading program featuring general adult fiction and non-fiction titles. Join us every other Saturday on YouTube for a virtual adult story time.
