Young Child Driver Plows Into Woman In East Bay Crosswalk

OAKLAND, CA — Two children under 10 were allegedly driving a car in Oakland when they hit a pedestrian and sent her to the hospital with serious injuries Thursday morning, according to police.

Officers were sent to the intersection of 35th and Mangels avenues in the city's Allendale neighborhood at about 9:30 a.m. to investigate reports of a car hitting a pedestrian.

When they got to the scene, officers found a 30-year-old woman who was crossing 35th Avenue in a crosswalk with her dog when she was hit by a car.

The woman was taken to the hospital and listed in critical condition, police said.

The driver, a child under 10 years old, and a passenger, also under 10, were also taken to the hospital and were both listed in stable condition.

Police said kids were heading north on 35th Avenue when they allegedly ran into a car heading south, lost control and then ran into the woman.

Officers contacted the children's parents, who are cooperating with the investigation.

Police officials said they didn't yet know if alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision.
