Back in December, Coastline Christian Schools (CCS) was honored to be invited by BizWorld to participate in their Annual Riskmasters Luncheon — an exciting entrepreneurship competition that challenges students to think and operate like real-world business owners.

Each year, three schools are selected to compete for a $1,000 prize by designing, manufacturing, marketing, and selling their own products at the event. Teams are judged on product quality, salesmanship, and total revenue generated during the luncheon.

Our CCS team consisted of seven eighth graders who had previously completed the BizWorld elective. Drawing from their experience, they met weekly to brainstorm, refine ideas, and execute their plans. From concept development to production and marketing strategy, the students took full ownership of every step of the process — providing regular updates and independently managing the details that brought their vision to life.

On the day of the luncheon, the team traveled to the beautiful Computer History Museum in Mountain View, where they set up their booth alongside students from the other participating schools. Throughout the event, they demonstrated professionalism, confidence, and impressive sales skills as they engaged with attendees and presented their products.

Although our team did not take home the top prize this year, we could not have been more proud. The students handled every aspect of the project independently, without additional adult assistance. Watching them apply what they had learned and rise to a real-world challenge was truly inspiring.

In addition to the competition, students had the opportunity to hear from Sal Khan, founder of Khan Academy, as well as two young entrepreneurs who began building their own businesses while still in high school. It was a powerful reminder that innovation, leadership, and initiative can begin at any age.

CCS previously participated in 2019 — and won that year — and we are grateful to BizWorld for the opportunity to compete again. Experiences like this reflect what makes Coastline unique: students are challenged academically, encouraged to lead with confidence, and given meaningful opportunities to apply their learning in real-world settings — all within a Christ-centered environment that prepares them not just for high school, but for life.
