Empanada Shop Employee Attacked By Homeless Man In East Bay: Report

OAKLAND, CA — A homeless man was arrested Monday after being caught on camera attacking a woman opening up an empanada shop in West Oakland, according to a KTVU report.

"This individual went inside, asked her for money," the shop's owner, Javier Sandes, told KTVU. "She said, 'I'm sorry, I don't have any money, I need to open up.'"

Shortly after, the employee was attacked, according to KTVU.

Video obtained by KTVU shows the woman trying to open Javi's Cooking, an Argentinian empanada shop in West Oakland, for the day.

A man can be seen lurking in the corner of the screen watching the woman.

Within a few seconds, the man slowly walks across the sidewalk and approaches the woman before appearing to grab her, the video shows.

The woman turns around, and a struggle ensues between them, the video shows.

The woman kicks the man multiple times, prompting him to run away, the video shows.

The woman was taken to a hospital and later released, according to KTVU. It's unclear if she suffered any injuries.
