2 New Dodgers Dreamfields Are Coming To Altadena's Farnsworth Park

ALTADENA, CA — Two new Dodgers Dreamfields are coming to Charles S. Farnsworth Park as part of a $1.4 million effort to restore recreation facilities damaged during the Eaton Fire.

The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, working with the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation, plans to break ground on the project Nov. 5, according to the foundation.

The project will fully restore two baseball and softball fields at the historic Altadena park, which was among the recreation sites hardest hit by the fire.

The fields will become the 69th and 70th Dodgers Dreamfields built or refurbished through the foundation's program.

The upgraded fields will support baseball and softball programs for children ages 5 to 12 and provide open recreational access for children and teens up to age 18.

Plans call for new irrigation systems, improved playing surfaces, fencing and shade structures. The project will also include solar-powered hexagonal scoreboards modeled after those at UNIQLO Field at Dodger Stadium.

A STEM Trail will connect the park's upper and lower fields and incorporate lessons from the foundation's Science of Baseball curriculum with features of the surrounding natural environment.

The foundation and county have held community listening sessions with groups including the Community Coalition for Altadena Recovery and Central Altadena Little League while developing the plans.

The foundation has also brought its Dodgers Dreamteam youth programming to Altadena and supported food distributions and other community programs during the area's recovery.

The Farnsworth Park project comes as recreation facilities across Altadena continue to reopen or undergo repairs following the Eaton Fire. Loma Alta Park has reopened with a pair of Dodgers Dreamfields of its own, while construction planning is underway at Charles White Park.

"For generations, Farnsworth Park has been a place where families gather, children play, and community connections are strengthened," Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation Director Norma E. García-González said. "These new Dodgers Dreamfields represent more than restored ballfields."

Once construction is complete, Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation will oversee maintenance, reservations, scheduling, permitting and programming at the fields.

Since 2003, the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation has invested more than $21.3 million to refurbish 68 Dodgers Dreamfields, providing more than 413,000 young people access to playable baseball and softball fields.
