A thick column of black smoke, erupting from the garage of a Banning home, could be seen for miles.

BANNING, CA — Firefighters rushed to extinguish an active blaze at a Banning home Monday afternoon. The thick column of black smoke could be seen from miles away as firefighters worked the scene.
Just before 2:30 p.m., the fire broke out on the side of a Banning home, located in the 300 block of Park Avenue, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokesperson Maggie Cline De La Rosa.
Multiple witnesses reported the housefire, she said. As of 3:15 p.m., the single-story, single-family home was still actively burning, she said. Firefighters requested breathing apparatus support and were expected to remain at the scene for an extended period.
