These Are The Best Restaurants In The East Bay, SF Chronicle Says

The Chronicle recently dropped its list of the best restaurants in the Bay Area. Did your East Bay favorite make the cut?

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — What makes a restaurant "the best?"

In a region like the Bay Area, where there are a plethora of restaurants encompassing various cultures, it can be hard to distinguish.

But staff members at the San Francisco Chronicle took on the challenge anyway, going through hundreds of restaurants in the past year to find out what the best 100 in the Bay Area were.

"Like last year, our list reflects the way we eat, which — aside from the fact that we each tackled some 300 restaurant meals this year — we presume isn’t all that dissimilar from the way our readers do," MacKenzie Chung Fegan and Cesar Chavez from the San Francisco Chronicle wrote. "We’re fortunate to be living in a region where fine dining flourishes; you could eat a tasting menu every night if you wanted to."

Of course, several restaurants in the East Bay, where cities like Oakland have been ranked as having the best food in the country, made the list.

Topping out at No. 3 is Burdell, a soul food restaurant located in Oakland's Temescal neighborhood.

Named after his maternal grandmother, Chef Geoff Davis has curated a menu of soul food items with a twist,

"I grew up eating my Grandmothers' cooking, as I got older I cooked with them and my Grandfather and my parents and had a lot of meals out at restaurants that cooked food from around the world, then I traveled a bunch, cooked European food and ate Phở Gà, Dinuguan, and Birria on days off," Davis says online. "All of this feeds into the food we cook at Burdell."

At No. 5 there is Sun Moon Studio, a Michelin-starred eatery in Oakand that focuses on "highlight[ing] local producers and farmers through the lens of our life experiences."
