Mills-Peninsula Medical Center Expands Behavioral Health Services with TMS Treatment
The Behavioral Health team at Mills-Peninsula Medical Center is now offering traditional Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS).

This evidence-based, non-invasive treatment may benefit adults with major depressive disorder who have not found relief with antidepressant medications.
Mills-Peninsula Medical Center’s Behavioral Health Service Line is now offering traditional Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and is accepting referrals.
This addition expands access to evidence-based, outpatient treatment options for adults living with Major Depressive Disorder, particularly those who have not experienced adequate relief with medication alone.

What Is TMS?
TMS is a non-invasive treatment for adults with Major Depressive Disorder who have not responded to antidepressant medications. The therapy uses targeted magnetic pulses to stimulate specific areas of the brain associated with mood regulation.

Treatment is delivered in an outpatient setting and does not require anesthesia, sedation or hospitalization — allowing patients to continue their daily routines while receiving care.
Who May Benefit?
TMS may be appropriate for patients who:
- Have a diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder
- Have not responded to at least one antidepressant medication
- Are unable to tolerate medication side effects
- Are seeking a non-pharmacologic treatment option

How to Refer
For Care Teams and Physicians – Internal Referrals (Epic):
- Navigate to Manage Orders in Epic
- Click database and search referral code: REF1025
- Select Department: PMCL PSYCH TMS
- Complete the TMS referral smartphrase
- For assistance, contact the Outpatient Behavioral Health team at 650-696-4695
- Sign the referral order to ensure it routes to the Outpatient Behavioral Health referral work queue
Once submitted, the outpatient behavioral health team will follow up with the patient the next business day to schedule an initial assessment.
