Rideshare Driver Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Boy Arrested In San Jose: Police

SAN JOSE, CA — A rideshare driver was arrested after police said a boy was sexually assaulted during a ride in downtown San Jose, police announced Tuesday.

With help from Foster City police, detectives located and arrested Anuj Kumar in Foster City on Sept. 13, according to the San Jose Police Department.

He was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of sexual assault of a minor, police said, police said.

The sexual assault occurred the evening of Sept. 12 in the 100 block of Paseo de San Antonio, according to the San Jose Police Department. The crime was reported later that night around 10:38 p.m., police said.

Detectives with the department's Sexual Assaults Investigation Unit used automated license plate reader cameras to identify the rideshare vehicle and the driver, police said.

Detectives believe there may be additional victims based on the nature of the incident.
