East Bay Man Stole Neighbors Cat, Left It For Dead In Castro Valley Wilderness: Report

CASTRO VALLEY, CA — An Alameda County man is facing charges in connection with the death of his neighbor's cat, according to a report from KTVU.

Antonio Preciado, 41, of Hayward, was charged with animal cruelty and petty theft after being accused of stealing his neighbor's cat and dumping it in a remote area of Castro Valle,y where it was later found dead, according to the report.

It's unclear exactly how the cat died. But it wandered onto Preciado's property around Jan. 17 and was never seen alive again, according to the report.

After police tracked the cat's last known whereabouts through its GPS collar, they noticed it matched the path Preciado was captured on surveillance footage taking that same day, according to the report.

After being arrested, Preciado told police he trapped the cat and dropped it off near Eden Canyon Road because it had been eating his livestock, according to the report.
