Hayward Man Convicted In Murder Plot At East Bay Home: DA

HAYWARD, CA — A man who drove from Alameda County to Oakley in a murder plot has been convicted, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors say Tanginoa Pahulu Tangi, 26, drove from Hayward to a home in Oakley, where he'd lie in wait outside for hours on Aug. 27, 2025, according to the Contra Costa District Attorney's Office.

When the homeowner arrived, Tangi fired 17 shots at their car from close range, fled the scene and ditched the gun, prosecutors said.

The victim survived the shooting, and Tangi led officers on an 11-mile high-speed chase before finally being taken into custody in connection with the attempted murder, prosecutors said.

On Monday, a jury convicted Tangi of attempted murder with premeditation, shooting at an occupied vehicle, reckless evasion, and being a felon in possession of a firearm — along with firearm enhancements for personally using a firearm, prosecutors said. It's unclear how much prison time Tangi faces.

Tangi, according to prosecutors, is also wanted in Auckland, New Zealand, on suspicion of murdering a courier.
