2 Student Athletes Killed In Overnight East Bay Crash 1 Day After Deadly Hit-And-Runs

CONTRA COSTA, CA — Three separate crashes killed two people and injured four others — including three high school student athletes — in less than 24 hours this weekend.

Two teens in the silver Infiniti died, while two other people suffered injuries early Sunday when an Infiniti and a white BMW collided near Deer Valley and Balfour roads.

Three of the victims were students at Liberty High School.

Antioch police found the vehicles at 12:21 a.m. Both teens died at the scene.

A third person in the Infiniti was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The BMW driver also sustained injuries.

Police are still investigating the what led to the collision and trying to identify all of the victims before releasing additional details.

The fatal two-car collision followed separate and unrelated hit-and-run crashes involving pedestrians Saturday evening.

Antioch police dispatchers received a report of a pedestrian struck near East 18th Street and Phillips Lane at 6:50 p.m.

Officers found 54-year-old man who suffered severe leg injuries, according to the Antioch Police Department. The man was airlifted to a trauma center.

The driver fled the scene, Antioch police said. Witnesses described the vehicle as a dark gray sedan.

Officers responded at 9:57 p.m. to another pedestrian collision at 801 Sunset Drive.

They found a 63-year-old woman with major injuries to her arms and legs. She was also airlifted to a trauma center.

The vehicle suspected of hitting her left before officers arrived, according to the Antioch Police Department.
