Danville To Launch Public Naloxone Boxes At Police Department Ribbon Cutting

DANVILLE, CA — Danville will host a ribbon cutting Thursday to launch Naloxone Distribution Units in accessible community locations throughout the San Ramon Valley, including at the Danville Library. The effort, which was developed as the class project for the Leadership San Ramon Valley Class of 2026, is intended to expand free access to naloxone, a medication used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

The units, also called Narcan boxes, will be installed in accessible locations such as police department lobbies and libraries, making naloxone available to anyone who may need it.

The project is part of a broader regional commitment to reduce opioid-related fatalities and help community members respond quickly in emergency situations throughout Contra Costa County, the town said in a news release. Danville has partnered with the National Coalition Against Prescription Drug Abuse, or NCAPDA, to support the strategic placement of the units.

According to the announcement, NCAPDA and the Danville Police Department will work together to install, stock, promote and monitor the amount of naloxone distributed from the units. The Naloxone Distribution Unit in the Danville Police Department lobby will be provided at no cost by NCAPDA and will be installed and maintained by the town.

The Thursday ribbon cutting will include a short program recognizing the project partners and the Leadership San Ramon Valley Class of 2026. Community members are invited to attend and learn more about the program and how expanded naloxone access can help save lives.
