Dublin Council To Consider Raising Members' Pay, Cutting Mayor's Stipend

DUBLIN, CA — The Dublin City Council is posed to raise councilmember salaries while reducing the mayor’s additional monthly pay.

The proposal, approved by the council in May 19, would increase councilmember salary by four percent per year since the last adjustment in December 2024. It would raise annual salaries from $1600 to $1730.56 a month, while reducing the mayor’s additional monthly stipend from $800 to $400. The new salaries would take effect after newly-elected officials take office following the November elections.

California law allows general law cities like Dublin to compensate city councilmembers by ordinance, and allows directly-elected mayors to receive compensation beyond their council salary. State law prohibits salary changes from taking effect during an official’s current term.

The ordinance was initially considered by the council on June 2, but did not receive enough support to be included. On June 16, the council reached a consensus directing staff to bring back the proposal for consideration on the consent calendar.
