First Annual Dublin Student Speech Competition Awarding Roughly $1500 In Prizes

DUBLIN, CA — Dublin middle and high school students are invited to participate in the East Bay Chinese Association’s first annual Student Speech Competition. Students will prepare two to three-minute speech presentations on one of three possible topics:

• Should AI change how students learn?
• Is success mostly hard work or luck?
• What surprised me most about high school?

The competition will be judged by several community members, including Dublin Councilmember Michael McCorriston as the chief judge. The first place winner in the high school division will win $300, the two second place winners will win $150, and multiple 3rd place winners will receive a $10 gift card. In the middle school division, the awards are $250, $125, and a $10 gift card, respectively. The competition plans to give away a total of roughly $1500 in total prize money, sponsored by the GH PacVest Foundation and Tom Hua.

Students are asked to register here by Oct. 5. Registration to participate in the competition costs $10. The event will take place Oct. 10 from 1-3 p.m. at the Dublin Library Community Room. It is free to attend, and no registration is necessary.

The competition is one of several community events sponsored by the East Bay Chinese Association, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting education, cultural, and community programs for local residents. EBCA organizes more than 10 activities each year in the Dublin community, including Easter celebrations, Chinese cultural festivals, holiday events, community food drives, and more.
