4 Encinitas High School Students Honored During 'Rising Star' Event

ENCINITAS, CA — Four Encinitas students were honored during the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce's February Rising Star of the Month Breakfast.

Ben Du from Canyon Crest Academy, Mason Jones from La Costa Canyon High School, Sindy Morales from San Dieguito Academy, and Anthony Kim from Torrey Pines High School were recognized during the Feb. 4 event at MiraCosta College's San Elijo campus.

"At the chamber, we take great pride in our commitment to education and the next generation of leaders," said Carol Knight, CEO of the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce. "The Rising Star program is one of my favorite initiatives, because it recognizes outstanding students who show not only academic excellence, but also character, leadership, and community spirit."

Now in its fourth year, the Rising Star program is a monthly breakfast that honors seniors from high schools in the San Dieguito Union High School District. The program recognizes students who demonstrate character, integrity, leadership and perseverance — qualities that make them role models in their schools and community, according to the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce.

All Rising Star students will have the opportunity to apply for scholarships that will be awarded at the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce's annual Salute to Education event in May. Since the program began, 102 students have been honored, with 17 scholarships awarded.
