ENCINITAS, CA — A train fatally struck a pedestrian Wednesday near San Elijo State Beach, authorities reported.

The rail fatality took place at about 1 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Chesterfield Drive and South Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

The victim died at the scene, Lt. Joe Barry said.
