Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Vehicle In Escondido

ESCONDIDO, CA — A man died after he was struck by a vehicle Monday night in Escondido, authorities said.

The crash happened at about 7:45 p.m. on Centre City Parkway, in the northbound lanes near Ninth Avenue, according to the Escondido Police Department. Police said the 47-year-old Escondido man stepped into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

A bystander provided medical aid before the pedestrian was taken to a hospital, where he died a short time later, police said. His name was not immediately released.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said. Drugs, alcohol and speed on the part of the driver were not believed to be factors in the crash.

Centre City Parkway was closed for about four hours while investigators documented the scene.
