Mosquito Control Treatments Planned In San Gabriel Valley

COVINA, CA - Mosquito control treatments will be conducted next week in parts of Covina and Glendora in an effort to reduce adult mosquito populations and the risk of mosquito-borne diseases, officials announced Friday.

The San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District plans truck-mounted treatments from midnight to 5 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday, according to the district. Treatments could be postponed or delayed by unfavorable weather or operational issues, with postponed applications expected to occur later in the same week.

In Covina, the treatment area is between West San Bernardino Road and East Rowland Avenue, east of South Armel Drive and west of South Citrus Avenue.

In Glendora, treatments are planned between Big Dalton Wash and San Dimas Wash, east of Barranca Avenue and west of South Farber Avenue.

District specialists will use Aquaduet, which contains the active ingredients Sumithrin and Prallethrin, in ultra-low-volume applications targeting adult mosquitoes.

The district said it will notify residents in affected areas through physical postings, social media and other channels.

Residents were also urged to reduce mosquito breeding sites by eliminating standing water, maintaining swimming pools, spas and ponds and regularly changing water in pet dishes, birdbaths and other small containers.

Officials recommended using mosquito repellent and wearing long- sleeved shirts and long pants to reduce the risk of mosquito bites.
