Watch: Hikers Scale Cliff To Aid Injured Man In Sonoma County

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Hikers scaled cliffs near a campground Saturday afternoon to help a man who had fallen about 30 feet and landed on rocks inaccessible to ground rescue crews, authorities said.

Several bystanders on Saturday afternoon climbed down the cliffs to reach the man and fashioned a makeshift splint for his injured leg, according to authorities.

Because ground crews could not reach the man, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office helicopter Henry-1 crew lowered a rescue stretcher 100 feet to the site.

Henry-1 crew lifted the man from the rocks and transported to a local trauma center for further treatment with help from the Timber Cove Fire Protection District, Coast Life Support District, California State Parks, and REACH Sonoma County 1.

“This rescue was another great example of teamwork between bystanders and our regional fire, EMS, law-enforcement, and air-medical partners,” authorities said.
