Watch: Injured Fisherman Swept Into Water, Rescued By Air

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A helicopter crew rescued a fisherman with major injuries after a wave swept him off the rocks and steep terrain kept ground crews from reaching him.

The fisherman was swept off the rocks near Fort Ross State Park. He made it out of the water and back onto the rocks on his own but was injured.

Henry One responded with the Timber Cove Fire Protection District, Coast Life Support District, California State Parks, the Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit, and the Sheriff’s Office resident deputy.

Using GPS coordinates from a cell phone caller, the helicopter crew located the fisherman with its camera, landed nearby, and set up a 100-foot longline.

The sheriff’s tactical flight officer, who is also an EMT, flew to the fisherman and secured him in a hot seat rescue device.

Henry One flew the fisherman to a Timber Cove Fire Protection District unit staged at the fort. The flight officer, fire personnel, and a California State Parks ranger treated him until a Coast Life Support District ambulance arrived.

Henry One then flew the fisherman and a Coast Life Support District paramedic to a local trauma center.
