$1.47M Lottery Ticket Sold In Hollywood As Jackpot Nears $1B

LOS ANGELES, CA — A Powerball ticket sold at a Hollywood convenience store is worth nearly $1.5 million after matching five numbers in Monday's drawing, according to the California Lottery.

The ticket matched the five regular numbers — 6, 37, 54, 55 and 64 — but missed the Powerball number of 10. It is worth $1,478,686.

The ticket was sold at the 7-Eleven on Santa Monica Boulevard near Wilton Place in Hollywood.

No ticket nationwide matched all six numbers, sending the estimated jackpot for Wednesday's drawing to $975 million. It would be the 16th-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history.

Two other tickets matched five numbers Monday. A ticket sold in Tennessee is worth $2 million because the buyer added the Power Play option, while a ticket sold in Maryland is worth $1 million, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association.

California prizes are calculated differently because state law requires major lottery payouts to be determined on a pari-mutuel basis, meaning prize amounts depend on ticket sales and the number of winners.

Monday's drawing was the 43rd since a ticket last matched all six Powerball numbers.

The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, while the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 24.9, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association.

Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
