Laguna Beach Artist To Have Route 66 Artwork Displayed In Mission Viejo In Honor Of Anniversary

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — A Laguna Beach artist is being showcased in the City of Mission Viejo, after it was announced that work by Joan Gladstone will grace the walls of Mission Viejo's City Council Chambers this week.

According to Mission Viejo City officials, Gladstone will visit Mission Viejo on Saturday, Sept. 26 to help the city commemorate the 100th anniversary of Route 66 during a special event.

At the event, Gladstone will speak on her work, which uses bright colors, bold shapes and clean lines to reimagine iconic scenes along Route 66.

Residents will hear behind-the-scene anecdotes that speak to Gladstone's creative process as she brings iconic roadside signs — many of which are faded — back to life. Gladstone will also share photos and details on her own trips across the iconic route.

Exhibitions of Gladstone's work include the Hilbert Museum of California Art, Sawdust Art Festival, John Wayne Airport, Newport Beach Central Library, City of Laguna Beach, Huntington Beach Art Center, City of Hope and more.

The artist event takes place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26 in the Mission Viejo City Hall Council Chamber.
