Prepare For El Niño With Slew Of City Events In Laguna Beach

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — The City of Laguna Beach is working to prepare residents in the event of an emergency with three free events.

The city will host two preparedness workshops and a free sandbag event in September in October.

The first event, a Community Preparedness & Evacuation Workshop, takes place on Tuesday. Attendees will learn about the city's evaluation management zones and start planning for their own homes and businesses.

The workshop takes place from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the city's Community & Recreation Center, 30516 S. Coast Highway.

Residents looking to attend were urged to RSVP online, as space is limited.

On Friday, Laguna Beach residents can take advantage of a free sandbag distribution event, where residents can pick up to 10 sandbags to help protect their homes and businesses.

CERT volunteers will be onsite to help load sandbags, city staff said.

The free sandbag distribution takes place Friday, Sept. 25 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Come October, the City of Laguna Beach will host a Super El Niño Community Preparedness Workshop.

Attendees will learn what causes a Super El Niño, how to prepare their homes and businesses for the weather event, and what the city is doing to protect the community.

The Super El Niño Community Preparedness Workshop takes place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 12.
