Corona Amazon Fresh Store Doors Shut As Shoppers Hope For Whole Foods

CORONA, CA — Amazon announced Tuesday the closing of all Amazon Fresh locations in California, including the Corona store, located at 3941 Bedford Canyon Road.

Riverside County Amazon Fresh customers noted a sign in the store window on Tuesday stating that the location was closed for the day. Many expressed disappointment on social media, while others hoped the store would be converted into a Whole Foods, as Amazon had indicated in its media release.

  • Corona: 3941 Bedford Canyon Road
  • Fontana: 16188 S Highland Avenue
  • Murrieta: 40485 Murrieta Hot Springs Road
  • Upland: 235 Foothill Boulevard

Plans for another Amazon Fresh store in Rancho Mirage at 34175 Monterey Avenue will be halted. That store, planned since 2022, never fully opened

“While we’ve seen encouraging signals in our Amazon-branded physical grocery stores, we haven’t yet created a truly distinctive customer experience with the right economic model needed for large-scale expansion,” the company said in a statement.

Some closed Fresh and Go stores will be converted to Whole Foods Markets, the company said.

It plans to open 100 new stores over the next few years, and no specific timeline has yet been established.

Amazon launched its grocery business two decades ago and acquired Whole Foods in 2017 for $13.7 billion. The company said its grocery business accounts for more than $150 billion in annual gross sales.
