Highway 74 To Close All Weekend Near Lake Elsinore On Aug. 28

Only local residents will be granted access during the full closure via a pilot car.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — State Route 74 will be closed throughout the weekend starting Friday near Lake Elsinore as construction continues on a safety and lane widening project, according to Caltrans.

The 55-hour full road closure will begin at 9 p.m. and continue through 4 a.m. Monday limiting access between Lake Elsinore and Orange County, according to the California Department of Transportation.

Only local residents will be granted access during the full closure via a pilot car.

Caltrans said the closure work limits will be Monte Vista Street to Grand Avenue. Residents west of Monte Vista Street will be granted access to Orange County. Residents east of Monte Vista Street to Grand Avenue will also be granted access to Lake Elsinore.

Caltrans said the $96.1 million Ortega Highway Widening Improvements Project will widen lanes and shoulders, and add safety features from just west of Monte Vista Street to Grand Avenue on State Route 74.

The project is expected to relieve existing and future traffic congestion along the busy corridor.

Motorists were advised to watch for signage alerting them of upcoming maintenance, and to reduce their speed in and surrounding the work zone.
