Memorial Dove Stolen Again From Lake Arrowhead Statue: Once Found In Lake Elsinore
For the 2nd time, the dove was swiped from the statue of an officer fatally wounded in the murderous rampage of Christopher Dorner in 2013.

INLAND EMPIRE, CA — The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, Twin Peaks Station, is seeking the public's assistance after someone stole a memorial dove for a second time from its spot in Lake Arrowhead Village's Lollipop Park.
This is the second time someone has stolen the dove from its perch on the peninsula at 28200 Lake Edge Road.

"Sometime between Mar. 13 and Mar. 27, an unknown suspect or suspects stole the small bronze dove from the Det. Jeremiah MacKay memorial statue," the department reported.

The estimated replacement cost for the bronze dove is between $3,000 and $5,000.

The statue, designed by Khachik Khachatouryan, was created and constructed in the summer of 2013 with a $25,000 grant. After its installation that fall, the middle-school boy from Lake Elsinore stole the dove from the Lake Arrowhead memorial statue.

Investigators retrieved the bronze dove from a shoebox inside the boy's bedroom closet.

The juvenile's name was never released. Both he and his parents received citations for the theft. Officials have made no connection between the recent theft and the swiping of the dove nearly 13 years prior.
Anyone with information regarding this incident, the identity of the suspects, or the current location of the stolen dove is encouraged to contact the Twin Peaks Station at 909-336-0600.

Det. MacKay was one of two law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty during Dorner's rampage. Both lawmen had local ties to Redlands and Yucaipa. Authorities believe Dorner was accountable for four killings in the space of ten days: a former LAPD captain's daughter and her fiancé in Irvine on Feb. 3, Riverside police Officer Michael Crain on Feb. 7, and MacKay on Feb. 12. He was one of four police officers shot and killed in ten days in Feb. of 2013.
