Starling is&nbsp;an American Patriot,&nbsp;Commanding Officer, Battalion&nbsp;Landing Team, Persian Gulf War, with&nbsp;ten overseas deployments and three&nbsp;combat tours in Desert Shield, Desert&nbsp;Storm, and Iraqi Freedom.
The event includes a pledge by Pearl Harbor Survivor Chuck Kohler, performances by the Monte Vista Choir, a 9-11 Essay Awards Contest, and free ice cream for attendees.
Featured will be local community leaders, military honors, and a tribute to our first responders.

Town Hall Theatre Company

At Art Embraces Poetry we believe that artists paint stories with color. Poets paint images with words. Together they enrich our community. Ekphrasis Poetry From Original Art features juried artwork from local artists which was forwarded to local poets. Art + Poetry was obtained from ages teens to seniors.&nbsp;Ekphrasis is: A written work that interprets a visual work of art.&nbsp;
Each Poet then chooses and interprets one 2D artwork through poetic language. Artists and poets do not know each other and only meet when they show up on Sunday Sept. 13. 
&nbsp;At the event each artist is introduced by Co-Chair and Emcee Linda Hartmann of the California Writers Club, Mt. Diablo Branch. The artist then presents their artwork and speaks about it; a short Q&amp;A follows. Ms. Hartmann then introduces the poet who has interpreted the artist's artwork. The poet then reads their poem inspired by the art; a short Q&amp;A follows. All this happens on the Main Stage at the Town Hall Theatre, 3535 School St., Lafayette. 
At 4:00 p.m. everyone gathers downstairs in the Lobby for an after party till 4:45 p.m. Florals on the tables in the Lobby are provided by Julie Carlson of the Lafayette Garden Club. This free program is sponsored by Art Embraces Poetry, Lamorinda Arts Council and the teen run Youth Ambassador Program (YAP) plus the California Writers Club, Mt. Diablo Branch.
