If You See Smoke: Orinda Fire Burn Wednesday

LAMORINDA, CA — The City of Orinda and the Moraga-Orinda Fire Protection District will conduct a prescribed burn Wednesday.

The burn at Orinda Oaks Park is part of ongoing efforts to reduce wildfire risk and strengthen community safety.

Weather and fuel conditions permitting, MOFD crews will ignite the controlled burn during the cooler morning hours to establish and maintain a strategic fuel break along Donald Drive.

Crews will treat vegetation approximately 100 feet downslope from the roadway, with operations expected to conclude by 1 p.m.

Officials said the fuel break is designed to slow the spread of wildfire, improve evacuation routes, provide firefighters with safer working conditions during emergencies, and support the long-term health of native grassland ecosystems.

MOFD is coordinating the project with the City of Orinda and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to ensure the burn is carried out safely while minimizing impacts on nearby neighborhoods.

Residents living near Orinda Oaks Park, particularly along Donald Drive, should expect to see smoke and fire activity while crews are working. Officials recommend keeping windows and doors closed during the burn. Motorists traveling along Moraga Way may also encounter smoke in the area.

If weather or vegetation conditions become unfavorable, MOFD will postpone the prescribed burn.
