Lafayette Reservoir Walkers Get Smoother Path: Report

LAFAYETTE, CA — Walkers tackling one of Lafayette Reservoir's roughest stretches will soon get a smoother route as crews rebuild the steep path between the dam, visitor center, and main parking area, the Bay Area Telegraph reported.

The short, heavily used section had deteriorating pavement and felt cramped in places, contrasting with the smoother Lakeside Nature Trail around the reservoir.

The East Bay Municipal Utility District is rebuilding the path as part of its larger Lafayette Reservoir Tower Seismic Upgrade project, according to the Bay Area Telegraph.

EBMUD said the tower project required localized widening of the access road for heavy equipment. Work that began in May also included a temporary boat ramp, barge placement, and scaffolding around the tower.

The road work created an opportunity to rebuild the adjacent pedestrian route, according to reports.

The project covers the shorter connector descending from the dam toward the visitor center and parking area.
