Driver Dozes Off And Slides Under Safeway Truck On I-580
A tired driver's car went under a big rig early Wednesday morning, causing severe damage to the car but no injuries.
LIVERMORE, CA — A car managed to wedge under a Safeway big rig early Wednesday when a driver nodded off on eastbound I-580 near the Altamont Pass, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials said that a fatigued driver was on their way home from work and admitted to dozing off while driving near North Flynn Road. The car then went under the truck, severely damaging much of the vehicle and the underside of the truck.
Despite the damage, the driver was not injured.

No arrests were announced in connection with the crash. In some cases, driving while extremely fatigued can lead to reckless driving charges under California law, particularly if it results in a crash.

"Remember, driving tired/sleepy can be just as dangerous as driving impaired," CHP said. "If you ever feel this fatigued, find a safe place to stop and get some rest!"
