From quality clothing and shoes to beautiful jewelry, household treasures, and so much more, there’s always something new to discover. The store is clean, organized, and restocked throughout the day—so you never know what treasure you might find on your next visit!
Here’s what makes this thrift store truly special: YOUR PURCHASE MAKES A DIFFERENCE! Every purchase helps support Shepherd’s Gate, a local Christian nonprofit that has been helping women and children in crisis for more than 42 years right here in Livermore and Brentwood.
A legacy of hope that began with one woman, Shepherd’s Gate has a beautiful history of growing to meet the needs of women and children in crisis. In 1984, Alice Ann Cantelow established Shepherd’s Gate in a three-bedroom house, providing women and children with 30 days of safe shelter. As the needs of women and children in the community became more complex, Shepherd’s Gate continued to grow.
In 2000, Shepherd’s Gate moved to a 2.5-acre campus on Portola Avenue and began providing long-term care, giving women and their children the time and support they needed to heal and rebuild their lives. Then, in 2006, a second campus opened in Brentwood in a 7,600-square-foot home generously donated by Signature Properties.
What began as one woman’s vision to provide a safe place for women has grown into a ministry serving women and children across our community—and our Thrift Store plays an important part in making that mission possible.Through the generosity of local donors and the proceeds from the Thrift Store, women and children in the Shepherd’s Gate program can receive the time, support, and resources they need to rebuild their lives—free of charge.
Many of these women and their children have experienced homelessness, addiction, trafficking or domestic violence. Their journey to healing takes time, which is why Shepherd’s Gate provides a residential program that can last a year or more. During that time, women have the opportunity to heal, develop life skills, find employment or pursue education, establish stable housing, and build a healthy foundation for their future and that of their children.
The results are amazing and inspiring! 84% of graduates, one year after completing the program, continue to have stable housing, sobriety, employment or college enrollment, and a connection to a local church. That is the power of hope, healing, community—and people who care.
The impact doesn’t stop at graduation! When women complete the program, they can shop for free at the Thrift Store to furnish their new apartment, find clothing for their first day at a new job or their children’s first day of school. What a beautiful way to help women begin their next chapter with dignity and confidence.
And don’t forget the people who make the store so special! You’ll meet some of the kindest, most helpful and enthusiastic staff around. Donating items? Someone will be happy to help you unload your car. Shopping? You’ll find a welcoming team ready to help.
