405 Freeway Will Fully Shut Down This Weekend
The 405 Freeway will fully shut down two separate times in the coming days. Here's how to avoid the worst of the traffic.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Traffic will be impacted on the 405 Freeway and nearby roads this weekend when construction will shut down several lanes and ramps of the interstate in the San Fernando Valley beginning Friday.
During some of that time, one side of the freeway will be completely shut down to all traffic.
Full Shutdown
The northbound 405 will be fully shut down between a point just south of Ventura Boulevard and the 101 Freeway on Saturday, June 6 from 2 to 5 a.m. and again on Monday, June 8 from 12:01 to 5 a.m.

Traffic will be detoured off the freeway just north of the Sepulveda Pass and through the streets of the San Fernando Valley before being directed back on the freeway farther north.

Weekend-Long Closures
Other closures will be in effect at all times between 10 p.m. Friday, June 5 and 6 a.m. Monday, June 8:

- The northbound freeway will be reduced to two lanes between a point just south of Ventura Boulevard and the 101.
- The southbound 101 connector to the northbound 405 will be closed.
- The Greenleaf Street on-ramp to the northbound 405 will be closed.
- The northbound 405 off-ramp to Getty Center Drive will be closed.

Officials urged drivers to consider the following alternate routes:
During the full overnight closures: Using the northbound 101 connector — Take the northbound 405 connector to the northbound 101 and exit at Hayvenhurst Avenue. Head north on Hayvenhurst and east on Burbank Boulevard to the northbound 405 on-ramp.
Using the southbound 101 connector — Take the northbound 405 connector to the southbound 101 and exit at Van Nuys Boulevard. Head north on Van Nuys and west on Burbank Boulevard to the on-ramp to northbound 405.
Southbound 101 to northbound 405: Travel southbound on the 405 and exit at Ventura Boulevard. Head east on Ventura, north on Sepulveda Boulevard and west on Burbank Boulevard to the on-ramp to northbound 405.
The closures coincide with additional closures on the 101 Freeway this week, which will see the freeway reduced to one lane in each direction at times.
Construction has been underway on the 405 Freeway in and near the Sepulveda Pass since June as part of the I-405 Pavement Rehabilitation Project, a $143.7 million project to improve safety and mobility along the freeway and extend the life of its pavement, according to Caltrans.
Many of the associated road closures occur overnight. But big traffic headaches have come courtesy of what Caltrans calls Extended Weekend Closures — that's when crews shut down lanes and/or ramps on Friday night and keep them closed until Monday morning.
Those weekend-long closures will happen at a pace of about every other week — or twice a month.
Caltrans does not have a finalized schedule for each weekend-long closure, but said there will be about 25 total weekend-long closures.
