In person: writer/director Andrew Ahn and actor Joe Seo
After high-school senior David Cho (Joe Seo) and his parents, Soyoung and Jin (Haerry Kim, Youn-Ho Cho), are forced to sell their family restaurant, they take on odd jobs to get by. When his parents enroll David in expensive college prep courses, he secretly takes a part-time job at a men’s jjimjilbang (bathhouse) to help with family finances. The choice also leads to an unexpected awakening, allowing David to explore his sexuality in a space reserved for illicit encounters.
Filmmaker Andrew Ahn draws from his Korean American upbringing in the bustling Los Angeles neighborhood of Koreatown to capture a story about familial bonds and expectations, exploring the intersection of queer and cultural identity within the ongoing pursuit of the so-called American dream....
