Freddie Freeman Tumbles Into Dugout During Dodgers-Royals Game

LOS ANGELES, CA — Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman appeared to avoid serious injury after tumbling down the stairs into the Kansas City Royals' dugout while chasing a foul popup Wednesday night.

Freeman fell during the eighth inning of Los Angeles' 4-2 win over Kansas City after misjudging the location of the dugout railing while tracking a foul ball hit by Isaac Collins.

“I didn't hit my head, so that was the key part there,” Freeman told reporters. “I am sore. Kneecaps are sore. Shoulder is sore. Hand sore. Wrist sore. I mean, I fell. (But) I'm in good spirits.”

The 6-foot-4 Freeman said his height may have helped him avoid hitting his head as he fell past the top set of steps and landed inside the dugout, ESPN reported.

Freeman remained in the game through the top of the eighth inning before Tommy Edman pinch hit for him in the bottom half. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Freeman was dealing with soreness on the right side of his body but appeared to have escaped a significant injury.

“I think that we really dodged a bullet,” Roberts said. “Very scary visually. For right now, he's in good spirits, which I think is a good sign. Just kind of total body soreness.”

Freeman said he would see how he feels Thursday before determining whether he can play as the Dodgers open a four-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
