Video: Cargo Plane Bursts Into Flames While Landing At LAX

LOS ANGELES, CA — A DHL cargo plane burst into flames while landing at Los Angeles International Airport late Wednesday night, prompting a response from airport firefighters.

The incident occurred at about 11:10 p.m. Wednesday as the cargo plane was arriving at LAX from Phoenix, according to media reports.

A video posted on YouTube showed flames shooting from beneath the aircraft as it traveled along the runway. Several loud pops could be heard as the plane touched down before flames appeared around the rear landing gear area.

The pilot indicated to air traffic controllers that the aircraft may have suffered a tire or braking problem during the landing.

"I don't know if we blew a tire, but it feels like the brakes locked up," the pilot told controllers, according to audio aired by KTLA.

Air traffic controllers temporarily directed other aircraft away from the runway as emergency crews responded, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Firefighters sprayed water around the aircraft's rear landing gear area after the plane came to a stop, extinguishing the remaining flames.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire and the condition of the aircraft were not immediately clear Thursday morning.
