Survivors Confront Bay Area 'Party Mom' As Sentencing Begins In South Bay: Report

The Los Gatos mother known as the "Party Mom" faces between 30 and 50 years in prison, officials said.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — Survivors began delivering emotional testimony Tuesday in a Santa Clara County court at the sentencing hearing for the Los Gatos mother known as the "Party Mom," according to a report ABC7 News.

Shannon O'Connor, 51, was convicted in March on more than 60 criminal counts — including 16 felonies — after a 16-week trial.

She was found guilty of crimes against more than a dozen child victims, including child endangerment, molestation, dissuading witnesses, and facilitating forcible sexual assault, prosecutors said. She faces a minimum of 30 years in prison and a maximum of more than 50 years.

Prosecutors said O'Connor organized secret parties at her Los Gatos mansion during the 2020-2021 school year, providing alcohol to underage Los Gatos High School freshmen and pressuring intoxicated minors into sexual activity. Witnesses described the gatherings as chaotic, alcohol-soaked events where O'Connor encouraged hookups and girls were sexually assaulted. The victims included 12 girls and eight boys, according to officials.

Bay Area 'Party Mom' Accused Of Pressuring Teens To Engage In Drunken Sex Acts At Secret Parties: Report

The sentencing phase is expected to stretch across several days, as each person impacted by O'Connor's crimes is entitled to deliver a victim impact statement. On Tuesday, four of the six statements heard came from a victim identified as Jane Doe 4 and her family members, ABC7 News reported.

Jane Doe 4 addressed O'Connor directly, stating the trauma had shattered parts of her and that she rebuilds herself every day while her family described the lasting damage, including a 35-day stay at an inpatient treatment center to address addiction, depression, and anxiety, according to ABC7 News. Her stepmother told O'Connor that despite everything, she had not ruined her stepdaughter's life.

Legal analyst Steven Clark told ABC7 News the sentencing will be lengthy, emotional, and legally complex — in part because O'Connor was convicted not for directly carrying out the acts, but for facilitating and overseeing them.

"The fact that she oversaw this and encouraged it and allowed it to go on is going to be a huge factor — that she was the adult in the room, and these young victims did not need to suffer," Clark told ABC7 News.

The case has been years in the making. O'Connor was first arrested in October 2021, and a Santa Clara County grand jury indicted her on dozens of felony and misdemeanor charges in November 2023, with prosecutors alleging she not only provided alcohol to minors but pressured hesitant girls to participate in sexual acts and in some cases encouraged boys to violate consent, prosecutors said.

Victim impact statements are scheduled to continue Wednesday and Thursday, with a sentence expected once they conclude.
