CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — Police have identified a suspect in the May 2024 killing of Raheem Coe, a 48-year-old Antioch resident found dead on a sidewalk in the Country Hills Drive area, authorities announced following a months-long investigation.

Detectives identified Ronald Benjamin Jackson III as the suspect after reviewing physical evidence, interviewing witnesses, and analyzing surveillance video, according to the Antioch Police Department.

Jackson is currently in custody at San Quentin State Prison on unrelated charges.
The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office has since filed charges against him for homicide, kidnapping, and making criminal threats, and Jackson is expected to be transferred to the Martinez Detention Facility ahead of future court proceedings.

Police said officers responded at approximately 7:19 a.m. on May 15, 2024, to the 2200 block of Country Hills Drive, where they found Coe deceased on the sidewalk. The circumstances surrounding the killing were not immediately released.

Authorities said that Jackson was a suspect in the 2022 fatal shooting of an Extra Mile convenience store clerk on Contra Loma Boulevard. In that incident, the clerk, James Williams, was killed on Nov. 26 after what police described as a botched robbery that escalated into a gunfight.

According to police accounts at the time, Williams chased two suspects who fled the store into the parking lot and fired shots at them, striking one suspect—identified by police as Ronald Jackson — in the leg. Jackson was suspected of returning fire, hitting Williams in the chest and leg.

Williams died at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head. The district attorney ultimately charged Jackson with robbery, possession of stolen property, and a firearm enhancement.

Police said that the filing of charges against Jackson III in Coe’s killing follows a separate and independent investigation. Further details are expected to be released.
