Julie Vandegrift Holds Thin Edge In Race To Fill Vacant Seat On Murrieta Valley USD Board

The winner will fill the open Trustee Area 3 seat on the Murrieta Valley Unified School District board.

MURRIETA, CA — Julie Vandegrift is leading in the race to fill the vacant Trustee Area seat on the Murrieta Valley Unified School District board.

Initial returns for the June 2 special election in MVUSD Trustee Area 3 showed Vandegrift with a slim margin over candidate Elliot Emmer.

Vandegrift has already served on the MVUSD board and was a conservative voice who voted against putting a school bond measure on the ballot to fund a new campus aimed at addressing overcrowding in the district.

Emmer is senior director of development at UC Riverside's School of Public Policy. He expressed support for the bond measure.

To claim victory, one of the two candidates must win at least 51% of ballots cast.

The election to fill the open seat follows the September resignation of Trustee Yvonne Munoz, who left the district due to work conflicts. The winner of the June 2 contest will serve out Munoz's term, which runs through November 2028.
