Teacher Begins Career In Exact RivCo Kindergarten She Attended As A 5-Year-Old Child
"I don't think my 5-year-old self ever could have imagined that I would come back one day as the teacher," Arianna Henry said.
MENIFEE, CA — For first-year early childhood educator Arianna Henry, stepping into her new job at Freedom Crest Elementary School felt less like a first step and more like coming home.
Henry, a new transitional kindergarten and kindergarten teacher in the Menifee Union School District, has returned to teach in the exact same classroom where her own education began as a 5-year-old student.
"The feeling of walking into this classroom is so surreal," Henry said Monday. "I used to sit in these same seats as a 5-year-old, and now I get to welcome our school’s youngest learners into them every morning. I don't think my 5-year-old self ever could have imagined that I would come back one day as the teacher."
Henry comes from an education background. Her mother, Samantha Henry, teaches transitional kindergarten and kindergarten at nearby Hans Christensen Academy. Seeing her mother pour dedication into her students inspired Arianna from a young age to pursue a teaching career.
When stepping into the room to prepare for her inaugural year, Arianna Henry noticed subtle reminders from her childhood, including the same flooring seen in her 5-year-old school photos.
"TK and kindergarten are the beginning of so many children's educational journeys, and there is something really special about getting to give a new group of students their start in the same place where I had mine," she said.
School leadership welcomed Henry's return, highlighting the value of hiring local educators with deep ties to the area.
"I was deeply touched when I learned that Arianna would be returning to teach in the very kindergarten classroom where she once learned," Freedom Crest Elementary School Principal Eli Orr said. "Her deep local roots bring a unique sense of trust and understanding to her work with students and families, and she brings fresh, positive energy and compassion to our campus every day."
District leaders noted that Henry remained focused on returning to Menifee throughout her college years.
"Having known her mother, Samantha, for years, I know firsthand the wonderful legacy of teaching in their family," MUSD Board President J. Kyle Root said. "Even throughout her time in college, Arianna’s clear goal was always to come back and work right here in our district. Seeing her fulfill that dream at Freedom Crest Elementary School is a wonderful moment for our entire school community."
Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Root echoed the sentiment, praising the enduring connection between local families and the district.
"When a former student returns to teach in the district that raised her, guided by a strong family legacy of teaching, it speaks volumes about the strength and heart of our community," Root said. "We are incredibly proud to welcome Arianna back to inspire the next generation in the very place where her own story began."
