Newsom Appoints Veronica Juarez To Napa Bench

NAPA VALLEY, CA — A veteran prosecutor who has spent years handling criminal cases in Napa County is headed to the bench after Gov. Gavin Newsom appointed Veronica Juarez to serve as a judge on the superior court.

Juarez, a Yolo County resident, has worked as a deputy district attorney in Napa County since 2021.

Before that, she served as a deputy attorney general with the California Department of Justice from 2019 to 2021 and spent 12 years as a deputy district attorney in Solano County. Earlier in her legal career, she worked as a deputy public defender in Yuba County, according to

A graduate of the University of San Francisco School of Law, Juarez earned her Juris Doctor degree before launching a legal career that has spanned more than 20 years.

Court leaders praised the appointment, filling a vacancy left by the retirement of Judge Mark S. Boessenecker.

"We are delighted by the Governor’s appointment of Veronica Juarez to the Superior Court bench, where her extensive legal experience and unwavering integrity ensure she will serve with excellence for years to come," Presiding Judge Scott R. L. Young said.

Assistant Presiding Judge Joseph Solga called the selection a win for the court and the legal community.

"We’re elated that DDA Juarez has been appointed as a Superior Court Judge," Solga said. "She has served the legal community for over two decades and brings exceptional experience to the Court."

Juarez is expected to take the oath of office later this month and begin her judicial assignment shortly afterward.

"I am truly honored and humbled to serve the citizens of Napa," Juarez said in the statement. "I am grateful to Governor Newsom for his confidence in my abilities to serve in this important role. I look forward to upholding the law with integrity, fairness, and understanding."
