'Lord Of The Rings' Star Given Key To Novato 30 Years Later

NOVATO, CA — More than three decades after Elijah Wood came to Novato to film “Radio Flyer,” the actor has finally received a Key to the City that officials prepared for him when he was a child.

The City of Novato recently shared the unusual story, explaining that the key was prepared for Wood in the early 1990s but was never delivered.

Instead, the key remained at Novato City Hall for more than 30 years.

That changed last month when a city staff member learned that their son, Malcolm, had a scheduled meet-and-greet with Wood at Fan Expo in San Francisco.

Malcolm agreed to take on the mission of delivering the long-forgotten key to Wood. After spending hours waiting in line, he finally handed it over.

According to the city, Wood was genuinely surprised and touched to learn that Novato had held onto the key all these years.

Wood was a young actor when he came to Novato to film “Radio Flyer,” which was released in 1992. The movie starred Wood alongside Lorraine Bracco.
