Tips From Community Lead Police To Suspect In Serious Novato Assault

NOVATO, CA — Tips from community members helped Novato police identify and arrest a man sought in connection with an assault that left someone seriously injured, police said Tuesday.

Officers located Jonathan Darling, 40, of Novato in the downtown area around 8 p.m. Monday and took him into custody, according to police.

The arrest came hours after police released information about the assault and asked the public for help identifying the suspect. Police said they received numerous tips that helped officers locate Darling.

The assault happened just before noon Monday near Grant Avenue and First Street, police said. Witnesses told police a man battered an adult male victim, causing serious injuries.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Darling was booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of battery causing serious bodily injury and violating parole, police said.
