Youth Basketball Coach Arrested On Child Sex Abuse Charges In Marin County: Police

NOVATO, CA — A Marin County youth basketball coach was arrested Sunday on charges including kidnapping, sexual battery and lewd acts involving a minor, according to the Novato Police Department and Marin County District Attorney's office.

The Marin County District Attorney's Office indicted Charles Ramon Huff, 57, of Mill Valley, on three counts of lewd acts with a child on Tuesday, including a special charge because he was in a position of trust.

He was arrested on Sunday and booked into the Marin County Jail on charges including kidnapping, sexual battery and lewd acts with a child, according to the district attorney's office.

Prosecutors said the victim was either 14 or 15 years old.

Novato police confirmed Huff's arrest but did not share additional details about the investigation.

The North Bay Basketball Association, where Huff coached, sent out an email regarding the arrest, stating he had been suspended pending the outcome of the criminal investigation and the organization's own internal review.

"Our number one priority is the safety of our participants; we do not take for granted the trust you place in us," the organization wrote. "We have a zero tolerance policy towards all people who works with our kids."

The organization also stated the accusations are not related to one of its program participants.
