Joan Jett Severe Injury Brings New GenX Act To The Orange County Stage

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — After the announcement of a lead singer's recent back injury, it was announced Friday that Cheap Trick, with special guest X, will replace Joan Jett & The Blackhearts in a Sept. 5 concert.

If you've already purchased tickets to Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, those original tickets are valid for the Cheap Trick show, as both the venue and Cheap Trick announced on social media.

This was the 45th anniversary of "I Love Rock 'n' Roll," the song that catapulted the star into the 80s history. The band re-released the "Bad Reputation" album on July 31, showcasing their anniversary edition.

Joan Jett of Joan Jett & the Blackhearts' team released the following statement:

"Following a recent injury, Joan Jett has undergone orthopedic surgery on a fractured vertebra and will begin the necessary healing process. In close consultation with her doctors, Joan will not be able to perform at her forthcoming September-scheduled shows, including a Sept. 5 concert at Pacific Amphitheater.

"While Joan hates to disappoint fans, she will be taking this time to focus on physical therapy and healing. She’s looking forward to delivering tremendous concerts for many years to come."

Cheap Trick might be used to saving the day.

This week, the band pulled together a last-minute show at the Troubadour when tour mates ZZ Top canceled their appearance this week at the Hollywood Bowl. The show brought down the house, according to live video recorded and shared on X. Cheap Trick is picking up the mantle for Jett and her band in the September Costa Mesa show.

Cheap Trick will bring iconic tunes such as "I Want You To Want Me," "The Dream Police," and "Surrender."

The OC Fair continues through Aug. 16, with concerts including Rebelution with Skip Marley and Niko Rubio, AJR, Dwight Yokam, The Head and the Heart, Colbie Caillat and Mitchell Tenpenny, and Steel Pulse, with the Long Beach DUb All Stars in their Reggae Against Racism concert.

Post-Fair shows in Pacific Amphitheatre will take place through Sept. 6. Those shows include:
