OC To Host Buyback For E-Bikes, Offering Gift Cards & More

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — The Orange County District Attorney's Office is trying a new method to reduce e-bike injuries in the county.

The office will host a buyback event in September where e-bikes, e-motorcycles, e-scooters and pocket bikes can be exchanged for gift cards worth up to $1,000.

The event comes after a spike in deaths, injuries and prosecutions in Orange County and elsewhere in California associated with electric vehicles.

County District Attorney Spokesperson Kimberly Edds told The Orange County Register that the buyback program is the first known type of its kind in the nation for e-bikes and e-motorcycles.

At the event, gift cards ranging from $200 to $1,000, depending on the vehicle's class, will be awarded from Target, Walmart and Dick's Sporting Goods.

In addition, the first 75 people will also receive two tickets to a Los Angeles Angels baseball game.

Store-bought pocket bikes, as well as homemade miniature bikes powered by electric or gas motors, will also be accepted at the buyback event.

Gift card quantities are limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis, with working and non-working vehicles being accepted and no questions asked, according to the District Attorney's Office.

The buyback event takes place Sunday, Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Angel Stadium, 2000 E. Gene Autry Way, Anaheim.
